Levels Of Care

Outpatient: Free by the Sea offers outpatient care and continuing support for clients who have graduated from their alcohol and drug rehab treatment program and live locally. The extension of treatment is ideal for individuals who want to maintain their sobriety over an extended period of time and need the reinforcement of a continuing care treatment program. Individuals reside off-campus and live their daily lives as usual, participating in treatment programs as recommended at the time of discharge or as determined appropriate by the client and their counselor. Medically Assisted Detox: Detox is the process of purging the body of any substances that a person has consumed to the point of addiction. The process of detox allows time for the drug and alcohol to be eliminated from the body so the person can move forward with treatment. Free by the Sea offers detox placement to the men and women in the State of Washington who are living with drug and alcohol addiction. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal. Intensive Outpatient: Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs. Inpatient: Free by the Sea provides residential treatment for individuals working toward recovery from alcohol addiction and drug rehabilitation. Their residential treatment for addiction is designed to provide a safe, structured living facility for 30 to 90 days or beyond as needed. Residential treatment includes group therapy, one-on-one counseling, 12-step meetings, presentations, and educational group sessions. Sober Living Homes: Free by the Sea also offers a transitional treatment program for individuals who need continued alcohol or drug rehab support for up to one year but require a less structured approach. It is also ideal for clients who have previously received drug or alcohol rehab treatment. Aftercare Support: Prior to leaving treatment, each client will receive an individualized discharge plan. The client’s success on his or her journey to recovery is of utmost importance, and they strive to equip their clients with a plan that will promote the greatest potential for life-long recovery. 24-Hour Clinical Care: At certain points in the recovery process, it\'s important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand. Partial Hospitalization Program: A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals. Intervention Services: Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict\'s behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: CBT is one of the most effective practices out there today for helping individuals overcome mental health problems or substance abuse issues. This therapy has stood the test of time and is scientifically proven to be a very effective method for managing mental health and substance abuse issues. At Free by the Sea, they invite both individuals and their families to their facility in the State of Washington to experience the benefits that CBT has to offer. Creative Arts Therapy: Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself. Dialectical Behavior Therapy: Located in the State of Washington, Free by the Sea uses dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) to treat alcohol addiction, drug addiction, and other mental health issues. Dialectical Behavior Therapy at Free by the Sea is taught by our Clinical Director Dr. Kevin McGinley. Dialectical behavior therapy provides a new approach to treating substance abuse and mental health issues. Free by the Sea is one of the few treatment centers in the country with a DBT program that integrates mental health with substance abuse treatments. Eating Disorder Treatment: Eating disorders include anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, and dysfunctional eating patterns. Many psychologists and other mental health professionals consider eating disorders to be food addictions, meaning food is being used in an addictive way (similar to drug or alcohol addiction). Certain substance abuse treatment programs will have treatment for eating disorders as one of the services offered. An eating disorder may also present as a co-occuring disorder or dual diagnosis alongside drug and alcohol addiction. Equine Therapy: Equine therapy, aka equine-assisted therapy (EAT), is a form of experiential therapy that involves interactions and activities with horses. It does not necessarily involve riding horses, but all activities related to horses, such as feeding, grooming, haltering and leading them. A mental health professional frequently oversees the activities (often in conjunction with a horse professional), and helps patients process their thoughts, feelings, and behavior patterns during and/or after the interaction. Experiential Therapy: Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing: EMDR is a therapeutic modality originally developed to help process trauma. In an EMDR session, a patient is prompted to undergo eye movements that mimic those of REM sleep. This is accomplished by watching a therapist\'s finger move back and forth across, or following a bar of light. The goal is repetitive sets of eye movements that help the brain reprocess memory, which can significantly reduce the intensity of remembered traumatic incidents. Associated memories can heal simultaneously, leaving patients significantly calmer, more stable, and more emotionally relaxed. Family Therapy: Drug and alcohol addictions affect the entire family. Successful recovery is not just about healing the client, but also healing loved ones and the family bonds that can be tested during addiction. Free by the Sea offers an intensive four-day family program focused on helping this vital support unit establish a foundation for successful recovery not only for the client but the entire family. Group Therapy: Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members. Individual Therapy: In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life. Life Skills: Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety. Motivational Interviewing: Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely. Nicotine Replacement Therapy: Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal. Nutrition Therapy: At Free by the Sea, quality amenities are an important component of the healing experience they provide for their residents. All meals at their alcohol and drug treatment center are prepared on-site by a trained chef whose culinary skills were honed at some of the region’s finest restaurants. They also choose to purchase local ingredients for quality, freshness, and an authentic Northwest flavor. Nutrition is exceptionally important throughout rehab and recovery. Some may not realize just how much of a strain their body will go through, and having an ideal diet plan will make the process easier and more efficient. Rational Behavior Therapy: Rational Behavior Therapy (RBT) is a form of cognitive behavioral therapy meant to be short-term and comprehensive. It was intended to help clients become more self-sufficent and move forward without the need for expensive, ongoing therapy. It includes an emotional self-help method called “rational self-counseling,” the purpose of which is to give clients all the skills needed to handle future emotional issues by themselves, or with significantly less professional help. Trauma Therapy: Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client\'s past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Detail

Alcoholism: The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings. Dual Diagnosis: Dual diagnosis occurs when an addiction to drugs or alcohol is accompanied by a mental or emotional disorder. As some mental and emotional disorders can hinder a successful recovery from drug or alcohol addiction, seeking help for the disorder is vital to overcoming the addiction. When it comes to substance abuse, they use support groups to aid in treating co-occurring issues. Mental Health and Substance Abuse: A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track. Opioid Addiction: Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.
